About Bulli Hospital Aged Care Centre

Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre is a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed to cater to the needs of the Bulli district's growing, ageing population. Opened in August 2020, this innovative centre specialises in multidisciplinary geriatric care, offering inpatient, outpatient, and allied health services. The centre's layout enables residents to move seamlessly between different areas as their needs change, and its design includes a two-level, 60-suite Residential Aged Care Facility linked to a 60-bed inpatient hospital via an enclosed walkway.

The Requirement To enhance the functionality, safety, and aesthetics of Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre to ensure a better living and working environment for residents, visitors and staff alike.

The Challenges

  • Space Constraints: Positioning new bins, chairs, and wheel stops to maximise utility without disrupting resident movement or daily operations
  • User Adaptability: Introducing new furniture and facilities can sometimes meet resistance from residents who are accustomed to the old arrangements. Ensuring a smooth transition for these individuals was a key consideration.
  • Safety Concerns: Ensuring the new products met all safety standards and regulations, especially considering the vulnerability of the elderly residents was paramount.
  • Durability and Maintenance: Identifying seating and bin options that are sturdy, long-lasting, and low-maintenance.
  • Compliance with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA): Ensuring that the selected furniture was compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. Compliance with the Act is not only a legal requirement, but it also ensures a more inclusive and comfortable environment for all residents of the nursing home.

The Solution

After evaluating the challenges and requirements, the aged care centre selected the Prague Bin 60L and the Madrid DDA Seat with Merbau Hardwood slats.

These products offer the following features:

Prague Bins

  • Versatility: The Prague Bins, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, enhance the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the nursing home environment.
  • Durability: Made from locally sourced, galvanised steel with a premium powder coating, these bins offer robustness, long-lasting use and resist environmental elements.
  • Modular Design: The bins' design allows for customization in colours, finishes, and laser-cut patterns, aligning with the aesthetic needs of the nursing home.
  • Maintenance: The bins are equipped with a heavy-duty plastic liner with a 60-litre capacity, ensuring easy disposal and maintenance.

Madrid Seat

  • Compliance: The Madrid Seat, available with armrests, meets the Disability Discrimination Act standards, ensuring inclusivity for all residents.
  • Durability and Longevity: The die-cast aluminium frame of the seat ensures durability, resistance to corrosion, and longevity, requiring no maintenance over the lifetime of the product.
  • Local Manufacturing: Being manufactured in Australia guarantees quality materials and careful assembly, ensuring a product that can stand the test of time.
