Sustainable Manufacturing: Astra Street Furniture's Eco-Friendly Practices

In an era of growing concern for the environment and a collective push towards sustainability, businesses across all sectors are shifting towards eco-friendly practices. One sector leading the charge is manufacturing, with 'Sustainable Manufacturing' becoming a significant buzzword in the industry.

Sustainable Manufacturing simply refers to producing goods in a way that minimises negative environmental impacts, conserves energy and natural resources, and is safe for employees, communities and customers. Astra Street Furniture is proud to be leading the way with our sustainable manufacturing practices.

Astra Street Furniture: A Commitment to Sustainability

We have fully embraced the concept of sustainable manufacturing, making considerable efforts to integrate renewable energy sources, carbon emission reduction, and recycling into our day to day operations. Our commitment to sustainability permeates every aspect of our operations and is reflected in our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, particularly our first pillar “Enhancing the Environment”.

Harnessing Solar Power

Our commitment to sustainability is evident from the top down, literally. Our manufacturing building is equipped with solar panels, a renewable energy source that helps reduce our carbon footprint. Solar energy is not only sustainable but also extremely beneficial in terms of reducing energy costs. Even the solar panels themselves shade the roof and allow cross-ventilation to help cool the building, which in turn assists with reducing energy consumption even further. This transition has allowed us to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

Hydroelectricity and Aluminium Production

Astra Street Furniture takes an eco-friendly approach to the manufacturing of our aluminium extrusions as well. We use hydroelectricity, a form of renewable energy generated by the force of falling or flowing water. This is a significant step in sustainability, considering the typically energy-intensive aluminium manufacturing process. Hydroelectricity makes the process less carbon-intensive, lowering the overall carbon footprint of the product and the company as a whole.

Intensive Recycling Practices

Recycling is a cornerstone of our sustainable manufacturing model. We have three recycling streams - scrap timber, scrap steel & aluminium and cardboard.

  • Scrap timber: The collected wood waste is recycled into various products like mulch, compost, and particleboard. This not only prevents landfill waste but also results in a circular economy where resources are reused rather than discarded.
  • Scrap steel & Aluminium: Steel & Aluminium recycling helps conserve raw materials and energy that would otherwise be spent on producing new steel.
  • Cardboard: The company's cardboard waste is recycled into new paper products, reducing the need for fresh pulp and preserving our forests.

The Future of Manufacturing

Astra Street Furniture is a great example of what sustainable manufacturing looks like in action. Our commitment to harnessing renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and establishing comprehensive recycling practices are testament to our dedication to sustainable operations.

We strongly believe that sustainable manufacturing is not just a trend, but an urgent necessity. It's the future of manufacturing - a future where businesses thrive without compromising the health and well-being of our planet.
