What Is The Importance of Chain of Custody?
Grow and harvest more timber! Timber is a renewable and sustainable natural resource that helps reduce carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) emissions through the process of photosynthesis because trees consume carbon dioxide and generate oxygen.
Chain of Custody (CoC) for timber and
other forest products refers to tracking the process to record the sequence of
product transfer to ensure that the end product is indeed manufactured using
the certified timber from sustainably managed forests. The principles are set
out by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), the Programme
for the Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC™), and the Australian Forest
Certification Scheme (AFS®). This ensures the forests where we source
our timbers from are legal, well-managed and guaranteed for the long-term,
providing a renewable resource whilst simultaneously protecting and managing
the environment.
FSC is the world’s most rigorous
forest product labelling scheme and is a prestigious award to those who secure
that certification. PEFC is also now recognised equally to FSC by the Green
Building Council of Australia and is an alternative scheme used by a different
group of forestry organisations.
Astra Street Furniture uses only timber with FSC or PEFC certification as a clear demonstration of our commitment to source timber from sustainably managed forests.
