Is Astra Street Furniture Really Australian Made?
When choosing furniture for a school, park or streetscape, knowing where it is made can be just as important as choosing the right design. Customers often ask us: “Is Astra Street Furniture really Australian made?”
Yes. Our furniture is designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia, bringing together our Western Sydney team and specialist manufacturers across the country.
Where Is Astra Furniture Made?
Our Minchinbury facility is home to our design, assembly and powder-coating operations. We work with experienced Australian manufacturers in Sydney, Melbourne, South East Queensland and other locations to fabricate and manufacture our the components that make up our furniture.
This means different stages of production happen where the right skills and equipment are available, while keeping the work here in Australia.
What Does Local Manufacturing Mean for Your Project?
For customers, Australian manufacturing offers practical advantages:
- Shorter lead times: With materials and components held in stock, many standard Astra products can be dispatched within one week of order confirmation. Shelters, custom configurations and specialised finishes may take longer, so we confirm timing for your order.
- More flexibility: Local production makes it easier to discuss changes to designs, colours, finishes and features.
- Australian support: You can speak with our team about product selection, custom requirements and ongoing maintenance.
- Replaceable components: Products such as the modular Athens Bin Enclosures allow individual panels to be replaced if damaged, helping extend their useful life.
Your purchase also supports the Australian businesses and skilled people involved in making the furniture.
Can Australian-Made Furniture Be Customised?
Yes. Local manufacturing allows us to work with councils, schools and project teams on furniture that suits the setting and its purpose.
For example, at the City of Casey park project, Astra supplied Milan seating and a custom Athens Bin featuring council engraving. The combination provided practical seating and waste management while creating a finish specific to the site.
At the Connie Anne Keith Sensory Garden in NSW, Astra worked with Tig Crowley Designs to provide furniture suited to the garden’s distinctive design. Milan seats were supplied in yellow, blue, red and green to reflect the garden’s educational themes, showing how local manufacturing and flexible finishes can help bring a project’s vision to life.
Customisation can include colours, signage and selected product features. The available options and production timeframe depend on the product and the changes required.
Why Does Australian Made Matter?
Buying locally made products remains important to many Australians. Roy Morgan research published in September 2025 found that 95% of Australians aged 14 and over were more likely to buy products made in Australia.
For organisations purchasing street furniture, local manufacturing and assembly can also make it easier to coordinate delivery, discuss custom requirements and access support throughout a project.
Can I Visit the Factory?
Absolutely. We welcome customers and project teams to visit our Minchinbury facility. You can see our assembly and powder-coating processes, explore products and finishes and talk to the team about how your furniture comes together.
