What Makes a Seat DDA Compliant?

Do you ever see or hear of street furniture that is ‘DDA Compliant’, but not exactly sure what it means? In a few simple sentences we can help you understand what makes a seat comply with DDA requirements.

So, to start, a seat must have armrests and also a backrest with a maximum angle of 105°. Therefore, a park bench without a backrest is not DDA compliant. The backrest height off the ground needs to be within 750-790mm and the height of the armrests off the seat to be 220-300mm. Lastly, the seat height from the ground is generally 450-520mm.

If you are more of a visual person, see the diagram above that illustrates all the different angles and measurements we have mentioned above.

Here at Astra Street Furniture, we have taken the guess work out of determining which of our Australian made items are DDA compliant. Any of our furniture pieces that are compliant with these dimensions simply state it in their product name!

I trust you are now aware of what makes a seat DDA Compliant and can begin to implement this in the street furniture present at your facility!
