About The Client

Glen Innes Severn Council serves a regional community in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, known for its Celtic heritage character, cool climate, and community-focused public spaces.

 The Requirement

The Council required a range of high-quality street furniture that would deliver both practical benefits and visual harmony. The goal was to create inclusive and accessible spaces for locals and visitors, while also reflecting the natural and built character of the region.

 The Challenges

  • Weather Exposure: Products had to withstand Glen Innes’ varied climate, including cold winters, strong sun, and rain.
  • Accessibility: Seating and facilities needed to support DDA compliance and community inclusiveness.
  • Timber Integration: The Council was keen to include timber finishes that were both durable and visually warm, without compromising on longevity or maintenance.
  • Public Safety and Flow: Traffic control and space definition required a simple yet effective bollard solution.

 The Solution

The Council selected a range of products from Astra Street Furniture, including the Liverpool Setting, Paris Bin, Paris DDA Seat, Athens Bin Enclosure, Florence Bin Enclosure 240L Covered Top and Concrete Sphere Bollard.

The Liverpool Covered Setting offers the following features:

  • Weather Protection: An integrated roof provides shade and shelter, allowing comfortable outdoor use year-round.
  • Robust Design: Built with powder-coated aluminium, the setting is engineered for durability and high public use.
  • Comfortable Seating: Attached benches provide generous, fixed seating for groups or families.
  • Low Maintenance: Materials and finishes are chosen to withstand weathering with minimal upkeep.
  • Community-Friendly Design: Encourages social interaction, outdoor dining, and gathering in community or park spaces.

The Paris Bin offers the following features:

  • Natural Timber Finish: The vertical Western Red Cedar slats offer a warm, classic look that blends seamlessly with streetscapes and parklands.
  • Powder-Coated Frame: The robust steel frame provides structure and strength while allowing for custom colours.

  • Public Appeal: The design complements traditional and regional architecture

The Paris DDA Seat offers the following features:

  • DDA Compliance: Designed to meet accessibility requirements, with appropriate seat height and optional armrests for easy use.
  • Classic Design: Features the curved frame and timber-look slats that define the Paris range.
  • Weather-Resistant Materials: Ideal for exposed areas, the seat offers long-lasting performance and minimal maintenance.
  • Visual Continuity: Matches other Paris range products for a cohesive streetscape.

The Athens Bin Enclosure offers the following features:

  • Elegant Combination: Timber-look slats paired with a stainless steel curved cover bring together natural warmth and modern polish.
  • Enclosed Design: Prevents overflow and contains odours, making it ideal for high-use public areas.
  • Tamper-Resistant: Durable frame and lockable door protect against vandalism and weather damage.
  • Easy Servicing: The access door streamlines waste removal for council maintenance teams.

The Florence Bin Enclosure offers the following features:

  • Waste Stream Clarity: The red waste top clearly identifies the enclosure for general rubbish disposal, supporting waste separation.
  • High-End Finish: Merbau hardwood doors provide a rich, natural look while ensuring weather resistance and durability.
  • Large Capacity: Designed to hold standard 240L wheelie bins, making it practical for parks and busy town centres.
  • Covered Top: Protects contents from rain and reduces odour while maintaining a clean, tidy appearance.

The Concrete Sphere Bollard offers the following features:

  • Pedestrian Safety: Provides a strong, passive barrier to prevent vehicle encroachment into pedestrian zones.
  • Minimal Visual Impact: Its clean, sculptural form blends easily with both modern and traditional settings.
  • Durability: Made from solid concrete for maximum resistance to weather, impact, and wear.
  • Low Maintenance: Concrete requires no paint or coating, making it ideal for regional installations.

What the client said: The furniture and bins help to modernise the look of the park and it makes it easy having shelters that are fully engineered. The concrete logs were the perfect length to protect new planters. We appreciate what Astra does for us.”
